What if the ATM dispenses the wrong amount of money?
In such rare cases, the ATM user should call their bank to verify completion of the transaction and amounts processed. If the incorrect amount was dispensed and the error is verified by the customers bank a Regulation E claim should be filed with the issuer of the card used. The issuing bank will process the claim and issue a refund as necessary. All of our ATM’s have a phone number on the ATM to call if this occurs.
What is a “Regulation E Claim?”
A “Regulation E Claim” is a claim made by an ATM customer when an ATM is unable to dispense the requested cash. These are extremely rare but if this occurs the first step is to have the customer call their bank. DO NOT ever give the customer money directly! Have them call the issuing bank and file the Reg E claim.
Does ATM Theft occur often?
Statistics from NATIONAL FEDERAL ATM SURVEYS and the ATM insurance agency indicate a theft rate of approx 20 - 25 machines per year. Currently there are over one million plus ATM machines nationwide, therefore the odds of getting your machine stolen are similar to the odds of getting stuck by lighting.
ATM Theft Prevention Tips:
•Ensure base of the machine is bolted to a solid preferably concrete floor.
•Install real or even fake security cameras.
•Purchase a vibration alarm/alert system
•Place “ATM Cash Removed Nightly” sticker on ATM and Door. Remove cash cassette at close of business
•Install GPS theft tracking device, also place GPS tracking sticker on ATM machine
